ETQ Recognizes its Quality Champions, Announces Winner, Finalists of its
Innovation Excellence Awards 2024

RR Donnelley, General Motors, Organon
Recognized for Innovative Use of ETQ Reliance

BURLINGTON, Mass. Nov. 12, 2024 – In recognition of World Quality Week, ETQ, part of Hexagon, today announced the 2024 winner and finalists of its annual ETQ Innovation Excellence Awards. Through a poll of its peers, ETQ customer, RR Donnelley, was selected for the winning project submission, followed closely by submissions from finalists General Motors, and Organon.

The awards program spotlights customer ingenuity in using the ETQ Reliance® quality management system (QMS) in creative and innovative ways to address some of the most pressing challenges in manufacturing quality management today.

“As we observe World Quality Week and this year’s theme: ‘navigating complexity in today’s business landscape,’ it’s fitting that we recognize our own quality champions, ETQ customers bringing quality to new heights,” said Vick Vaishnavi, ETQ CEO. “While RR Donnelley won the most votes for its focus on boosting environmental health & safety (EHS) goals through automated quality processes, we applaud General Motors, Organon and all of our customers, who strive day in and day out to make quality their number one priority, recognizing its role not only as a manufacturing necessity, but as a business imperative.”

Customers participating in the awards program submitted project entries that demonstrated significant achievements in the award criteria, including:
• Very high relevance to ETQ’s core quality and safety markets
• Measurable and meaningful return on investment (ROI)
• Demonstrated expertise in maximizing ETQ Reliance’s configurability and integration capabilities

The winner was chosen based on a poll of ETQ customers who reviewed summaries of each submission while attending ETQ’s annual customer conference in October.

RR Donnelley: Improving EHS performance by reducing the quantity of emissions.
RR Donnelley (RRD) the marketing, packaging, print and supply chain solutions provider, is committed to reducing the quantity of emissions, including greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions; developing opportunities for recycling and pollution prevention; and using paper, energy, water and other resources more efficiently. The majority of its sites must fulfill local air permit requirements. To that end, the company turned to ETQ Reliance to help reduce the quantity of emissions by more seamlessly collecting emissions data and finding areas for reductions across 68 sites. RRD developed an emissions tracking solution in ETQ Reliance, which replaced manual processes and allowed for a centralized repository for crucial emissions data.

Moving to the new solution, the EHS team saved time by not having to compile individual site information, and email escalations have greatly reduced delayed data input, ensuring ongoing compliance with permit requirements. Further, the risk of missing a data deadline have been significantly reduced by including an alert when data is not input into the system by a deadline. The data collection system also allows RRD to summarize company wide information, reducing central data collection by at least 40 hours per year.
Other winning solutions from Innovation Excellence Awards finalists include:

General Motors: Ensuring better use of people resources.
Leadership at GM relies on the ability to identify individual strengths and weaknesses, and leverage those to enhance the team as a whole. The automotive OEM leveraged its ETQ Reliance QMS to build a solution that allowed it to standardize and document team members’ skills and experiences to better utilize people resources and work to develop skills gaps at an individual and organizational level. It integrated the solution into its on-boarding package and used it to standardize how often team members update their skill assessments, and how often managers review them.

GM is now able to identify skills gaps and utilize internal subject matter experts and training resources to layout strategic enhancements to individual and organizational functional skills. The experience and skill application has allowed it identify people needs, streamline training and improve organizational agility.

Organon: Enabling compliance to industry regulations.
Independent global healthcare company, Organon, developed the RAD-ETQ Regulatory Assessment and Disposition (RAD) module to help it ensure compliance with global regulatory requirements when changes occur in drug products, manufacturing or packaging. By managing and assigning assessments to evaluate these changes, the module helps Organon meet country-specific regulatory needs. It also tracks affected drug product batches, ensuring they are only released once all requirements are met.

The RAD module has streamlined processes, enhanced regulatory compliance, and minimized risks by automating critical tasks and integrating seamlessly with existing systems.
